The MUSE research
group focuses on individual experience of, and through, information
technology. We are situated at the Department of Informatics, Umeå
University, and the Interactive Institute Tools for Creativity Studio
in Umeå, Sweden. The meanings of Muse:
Mediated
Understanding refers to the fact that people make individual
sense of things through their own experiences, and that their
experiences are increasingly produced via their interactions with
and through computers and electronic networks.
Sensory
reflects a recognition of the growing importance of the perception
of concrete forms in mediated understanding, and the central role
of the human body in many recent forms of human-computer interaction.
Exploration
points to the fact that we each find individual paths through
the virtual - and increasingly concrete - world of computer representations,
in a way not so different from how we explore new parts of the
physical world around us.
