This is the web based part of the V MIT 2 Project material. For now it's mainly for internal use.

Goal

The final goal of this project is to create a working environment for academic meetings in a virtual world. Along the way we plan to explore issues like differences between virtual world (VW) design and traditional IT design, how to support group design in VWs, and VW design issues in general.

About

The design group "The Swedish Polygon Company" consísts of the following people: Mikael Jakobsson (co-ordinator), Anna Croon (builder), Daniel Skog (builder), Helena Holmström (builder) and Erik Stolterman (spiritual leader).

We use an ActiveWorlds 40,000 square meters world restricted to eight simultaneous users, for the implementation of the Virtual MIT House 2.

Other material used in the design process includes 3D Studio Max®, Lego® (lots of it) and Simpsons© chess pieces.

Phase 1

In this first step we explored the possibilities and problems of using Lego as a blueprint substitute. We made a legomodel called Four Rooms and rebuilt it in the Virtual MIT House 2.

Phase 2

In this phase we try to build a conference center that we hope will actually work as a place for people to meet and hold presentations and discussions.
