Eva Lindh Waterworth & John Waterworth, Q-LIFE studio, Interactive Institute: Q-Life: Researching the relationship between IT and quality of life

Q-Life was launched in March, 2005, from parts of the former Tools for Creativity studio, as the sole representative of the Interactive Institute in Umeċ. Q-Life has a central role within the Interactive Institute for research work and prototype implementation in the area of quality of life and the potential role of information and communication technology. Our present and planned work is intrinsically multi-disciplinary, drawing on art, science, technology and social concerns. We work closely with local organisations, for example those concerned with catering for the needs of groups such as the elderly, the mentally disabled, and others. In this seminar we will describe examples of our previous, current and planned work in the area, and explain recent organisational changes at the studio and at the Interactive Institute in general. Part of Q-Life’s mission is to increase the level of collaboration between the Interactive Institute and other relevant organisations in Umeċ, with a strong emphasis on research groups at Umeċ University. We hope that such collaborations will take a variety of forms, including joint research activities, hosting of PhD and other students for project work, staff exchanges, and cooperatively organised seminars and other events.
