Organizational consequences of information technology: dealing with diversity in empirical research
This presentation will deal with the organizational consequences of IT and the theoretical considerations that should guide research on IT and its organizational consequences. Because of the diverse outcomes of research on the organizational consequences of IT, different theoretical tools are recommended for guiding research. The diversity in existing research findings should stimulate thinking about new directions in the study of the organizational consequences of IT, and new theoretical approaches should be combined with rigor in the research process. As a possible new direction for research, this presentation advocates a process approach, and also an alternative theoretical logic where life-cycle, evolutionary, teleological, or dialectic processes could be explored.
