Claudio Ciborra, London school of Economics: From Control to Drift

The seminar reports about a research project on the dynamics of global infrastructures in large multinational companies. The interpretation of the case studies of SKF, IBM, Roche, Norsk Hydro, IBM and Astra, invites to reconsider the typical infrastructure management agenda, and suggests new reflections on the dynamics of infrastructure. Issues at stake are: what is the nature of globalization ? What is the nature of infrastructure ? What is the nature of the infrastructure deployment process.? These questions indicate that other disciplines need to be tapped that go beyond the narrow managerial agenda to enlarge our understanding of the field of information systems.
