Daniel Fällman, Ola Henfridsson, Helena Holmström: "IT-Support For Flight Technicians"

We intend this presentation to cover the feasability study that we have conducted at SAS this autumn. The study has been broad in orientation, where much of the time has been devoted to understand the work practice of flight technicians. This understanding is intended to form the basis for exploring the possibility to use various kinds of IT-support in flight maintenance and education.

In Daniel's part of the study, the emphasize has been on issues of mobility and the current role of IT support in the work practice. It is believed that the findings of the feasibility study indicate a conceivable application of a wearable or handheld system. Since the work practice of flight technicians within SAS vary from one sub-division to another, the focus is now particularly on flight technicians within so-called Light Maintenance, where crafts are mended in a hangar setting. During the feasibility study, some early endeavors towards mobility if IT support tools in this setting were explored. Helena's part of the study focuses on how Intranet-technology can distribute parts of the training and education of flight technicians to local airports. Since this distribution is in an early stage at SAS, her current emphasis is on how the management of maintenance training tries to develop organizational support for their change strategy. Involving more than just a technical change, supporting the Intranet-solution requires that the involved actors are committed to changing the work and learning procedures as well.

Välkommna!
