End & Begin with Platonic Information Technology?
This seminar introduces the research which I did during my sabbatical leave the past academic year 1998/99. I will give an account of my activities, my initial motivation and how and why it developed through time, the literature that I identified as possibly relevant and in part purchased and read, and which finally was chosen for more careful studies. I will also give an account of the the foreign places and people which I visited in France, Italy, Brazil, and Greece. I will finally explain the train of thoughts which, after the reading of seminal work by Immanuel Kant and Luc Ferry eventually led me to dedicate the second half of my time to the integral reading of Plato's and Aristotle's collected works, including the writing of extensive personal notes that will be available during the seminar. I will also refer to my ongoing editing of a manuscript based on structured excerpts out of Plato's collected works which I judge to be relevant for our IT-research. The latter material will be presented and commented in a subsequent seminar which is tentatively scheduled for the coming December 8th 1999. The continuity of my research with my earlier research plans is documented in the "Prefekttestamente" (Department chairman's report and last will, last version of June 30 1998), item #8, which is to be found in my computer's Public-folder or in our computer jupiter.informatik.umu.se, in the folders and . A related relevant background-document is the handout summarizing my seminar on our research education "Seminar-FoUtb 980408" held on April 8th 1998 (revised 980501, esp. items #5 and 7-9), also to be found in the above mentioned folders.
The seminar will be conducted in Swedish, but questions in the final discussion will be welcome also in English.
Välkommna! Per-Olof Ågren
