Jan Damsgaard, Department of management, University of Aarhus: Electronic Commerce Business-2-Business and Business-2-Consumers: Some Critical Observations

Electronic commerce is celebrated by many as the future way to conduct business between companies (B2B) and between companies and consumers (B2C). Surely Electronic Commerce will have a pervasive impact on companies, consumer behaviour, and business processes in the near future. However the adoption of EC practices by the business community have been much slower than expected. One explanation is the companies' lack of technical skills and competence to build and implement EC systems, however this conclusion may be too hasty. This presentation focus on why companies are hesitant to embrace both B2B and B2C Electronic Commerce by delivering accounts of two real life situations of Electronic Commerce. The two examples demonstrate some of the considerations and hesitations companies might have before venturing into the brave new world of Electronic Commerce.
