Making the Most of Multimedia Materials : An Evaluation of an Undergraduate Distance Learning Course
This seminar explores the role of interaction in the learning process and examines how a set of multimedia programs, designed for an undergraduate science course, interprets this notion of interaction in its learning activities. How effective these were are discussed with respect to the formative evaluation of these materials where the role of task structure,feedback and motivation are discussed.
Biographical note
Dr. Denise Whitelock is a Lecturer in the Institute of Educational Technology, researching and supporting the use of New Technologies in the teaching of formal knowledge systems, such as science and computer science within the Open University. These technologies include both text and audio visual conferencing systems, together with Virtual Reality environments. Her work has also focused upon the effect of information technology on communication patterns and work practices. A common theme throughout her research is the investigation of the role of collaboration in both problem solving and design tasks.
