Professor Sytse Strijbos, Department of Philosophy, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, The Netherlands: Wisdom, Ethics, and Information Management

Professor Strijbos has given us the following account of himself:

"I have studied Technical Physics and Philosophy. In 1967 I started my career at Philips Resarch Laboratories in materials research. Since 1977 I join the Philosophy Department at the Free University in Amsterdam where I also got my PhD. At the moment I am teaching in Philosophy of Technology and Culture. Among

numerous other publications I wrote The Technical World Picture: A Philosophical Investigation of Systems Thinking (1988). My current research concerns systems ethics."

Professor Strijbos will give an introduction where he will tell us about his own development of interests from Physics to Philosophy.

For those who want to acquaint themselves with professor Strijbos thinking, there is an article by him in Systems Practice, vol 8. no 4, pp. 361 - 376 with the title How Can Systems Theory Help Us in Bridging the Gap Between Science and Wisdom? The copy of the journal is to be found in our own library.
