Per Levén: Actability - Information Technology in a Context of Action

This seminar will be based on a draft of Per Levén's licentiate's thesis (in Swedish), which today has been distributed in your mail boxes.

To give a flavor of the theme that is treated in the thesis I have translated the first two paragraphs of the draft.

This thesis deals with information technology (IT) from a perspective of action. IT will here be interpreted in a broad sense and includes in broad outline all forms of that technology which are known under the names of information systems, data processing systems, computer technology, computer systems, etcetera. Perspective of action is something which most closely can be compared to a perspective of use. If you observe something from a perspective of use various use contexts and use situations will stand out. If you consider something from a perspective of action various action contexts and action situtations will do the same.

The perspective of the thesis is furthermore social in so far that the action contexts and action situations that are treated to the greatest extent consist of human beings and human actions. When action contexts are spoken of, mainly space is focused. When action situations are spoken of instead a displacement towards the time has been made.
